Distant Shores

Distant-Shores-00

Finding the next big surf spot is an adventure in itself and Distant Shores by award-winning photographer Chris Burkard documented his process through his beautiful photography. There isn’t necessarily a certain process to it, but Chris made one up for himself as he traveled to over six continents (for surfing) looking for remote destinations and surf spots you couldn’t even dream up. From the remote coastlines of the Arctic to the crowded streets of India, becoming one with nature isn’t portrayed any better than through this book.

JetSurf

Jet-Surf-Motorized-Surfboard

Trust us, our lack of posting makes us cringe too. But, we all need to get away from our everyday routine sometime and give our brains a break from this technology-dominant world. Here we are though, back to what we do best (so we think), and back to our daily grind to bringing you the coolest shit we can find.

It’s amazing what can come about in 4 days of being away from the internet and as I got off the plane yesterday a text message with a link to the JetSurf was the first thing that I saw. I was intrigued, and now I’m here writing an article on it, amazing how that works. Anyways, this thing is exactly what you’re thinking – it’s a motorized (jet-propelled) surfboard. No waves are needed for this baby, as it contains an 86-100cc 2-stroke engine that lets you fly through the water at a cool 35mph and a tank of gas will have you shredding your local lake for over 2 hours. Choose from the JetSurf Factory, JetSurf Ultra Sport or if you think you’ve got it down, the JetSurf Pro Race will be the one f0r you.

Shawn Stussy at his Studio

Here is a short video shot by Seth Epstein as he takes a look into Shawn Stussy’s studio as he explains to us his roots, surfing culture and the direction that shaping is headed. Which we must mention, shaping surfboards was the root of Stussy – not clothing as is mentioned in the video above. As Shawn Stussy is set to open a surf gallery in Tokyo he takes us through a brief board shaping and explains to us his current inspiration in making and shaping a board.  Catch the video above!
