Today, we celebrate the birth of what some claim to be the best hip-hop producer of all time – J Dilla (we have no argument for that). Recognizing his passing along with his birthday are the original streetwear players Stussy, with this J Dilla x Stussy World Tour Tee. Stussy Make Beats Contest Champion – Zack Sekoff

If your memory is fresh (unlike ours) – just under a year ago we posted about a contest held by Stussy, Teenage Engineering and Low End Theory. After searching high and low and across the globe the decision was made to crown 16-year-old Zack Sekoff the champion of the underground beat making contest. The beat that won it all was “Belly Beat” – the first track you will hear below. Sekoff’s Ancestor’s EP was professionally recorded in Los Angeles as part of his prize pack and you can stream that for free, below.

Shawn Stussy at his Studio

Here is a short video shot by Seth Epstein as he takes a look into Shawn Stussy’s studio as he explains to us his roots, surfing culture and the direction that shaping is headed. Which we must mention, shaping surfboards was the root of Stussy – not clothing as is mentioned in the video above. As Shawn Stussy is set to open a surf gallery in Tokyo he takes us through a brief board shaping and explains to us his current inspiration in making and shaping a board.  Catch the video above!

Stussy x Lafayette x Jonathan Mannion T-Shirt Collection

To support the upcoming Tokyo exhibition of the of Jonathan Mannion, Stussy and Lafayette team up to release a series of t-shirts for the event. The collection will feature five t-shirts, with picture of Rakim, 50-Cent, Slick Rick, Jay-Z, and Biggie Smalls all which were taken by Jonathan Mannion. The shirts will be made available on Saturday September 17 at Stussy online.

We are a little late on this one, but you still have about a week to enter the contest! Stussy along with Low End Theory and Swedish synthesizer company, Teenage Engineering, who produced a new drum machine/synthesizer called the OP-1 are holding a beat making contest that you can enter now until September 14th, 2011. The winner will be chosen by a committee from Stussy, Low End Theory and Teenage Engineering and announced on 9/20/11. Contest rules include one entry per artist, who can use anything to make an ORIGINAL instrumental beat, at least 2 minutes in length. The winner will receive the release of their EP, paid travel to Los Angeles to perform at the Low End Theory event, a Teenage Engineering OP-1 portable synthesizer, a 1 year SoundCloud Pro account and a box of fresh Stussy gear.

Stussy x Levi's Custom Collection

For Summer 2011 once again Stussy and Levi’s get together. In this latest series of products, Stussy chose items that have disappeared from Levi’s store shelves over the last years and customized them with their own aesthetic. The outcome is a custom capsule collection, featuring 505 denim, shorts, shirts and pants. All items feature special embroidery and patch details. Look out for the Stussy x Levi’s Custom Collection to release this week.
