We love photography and when it comes to the 2012 National Geographic Photo Contest, it’s no joke. Drawing over 22,000 entries from 150 countries this year, winners were selected by a panel of experts comprised of natural history photographer Christian Ziegler and documentary photographers Gerd Ludwig and Debbie Fleming Caffery. Taking home the grand prize was Ashley Vincent as she shot a photo of an Indochinese Tigress named Busaba – whose home is at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Thailand.  There was a first place winner for both People and Places as well as Honorable Mentions. Check the photos out – you will be impressed.

Everyday in mara starts with something new and different and day ends with memorable experiences with spectacular photographs. I was very lucky of sighting and photographing Malaika the name of female Cheetah and her cub. She is well known for its habit to jump on vehicles. She learned that from her mother Kike, and Kike from her mother Amber. Like her mother she is teaching lessons to her cub. Teaching lessons means addition of another moment for tourist. This is one of the tender moment between Malaika and her cub. I was very lucky to capture that moment.

Winners of the 2011 National Geographic Photo Contest

As 2011 draws to an end, we see magazines and blogs posting “the best of” from music to fashion and even photography. Perhaps one of the most famous is the National Geographic Photo contest which consists of some of the most beautiful pictures of the year. With having the task of more than 20,000 photos to review from over 130 countries, National Geographic had its work cut-out for them. Although I would love to have the job of reviewing photos for National Geo. I am sure the decisions weren’t easy. The winning photographer and photo went to Shikhei Goh for capturing a dragonfly riding out a rainstorm in Indonesia. Awarded $10,000 and a trip to the National Geographic Photography Seminar next year, Goh’s photo, just like many of his competitors, was captured at random in less than ideal conditions. Check out the gallery below and let us know what you think!
