De La Soul – 'Smell the D.A.I.S.Y' (Mixtape Download)

They’ve been gearing it up for weeks and finally, De La Soul has released the full ‘Smell the D.A.I.S.Y’ mixtape featuring full production from J Dilla. You’ll recognize some of the beats due to the album production by J Dee, but the flows are full of the De La Soul feel that hip-hop heads grew to love in the early 90’s. Not only will you receive a bumpin’ mixtape, but the available for download “Bundle” also features a J Dilla documentary, an audio letter, and wallpapers. Doesn’t get much better than that.

De La Soul – Dilla Plugged In

After releasing their full catalog last month, De La Soul is back at it again this time releasing a song from their forthcoming mixtape Smell The DA.I.S.Y.. The song titled “Dilla Plugged In” is produced by J Dilla himself, as the rest of the mixtape tracks will all be J Dilla productions. De La has several projects in the works right now; Premium Soul On The Rocks, with DJ Premier and Pete Rock, along with a new album titled You’re Welcome. Should be a big year for these hip-hop veterans, listen to the track below.

It’ll be hard to forget the legendary producer J Dilla (not like we will ever want to), through his music and the ability to craft beats like no one ever has, his legacy is bound to live on for more than a few life times. Ferguson draws up philosophy, musicology and critical theory to prove that this man really was a hip-hop genius.

Dillatroit

Underground hip-hop still lives in a world of its own and if you’re familiar with it then you know legendary producer J Dilla without hesitation. He innovated the game with his unique way of sampling and his ear for unexpected sound. Since his death in 2006, his legacy has lived on and has inspired many of the hip-hop artists you hear today. Lucky for us, there is still unheard music that he produced and the extremely rare 12-track Dillatroit EP vinyl that dropped last year which was very hard to obtain, is now available to the world for digital download. Finally, something worth listening to.

J Dilla – Anthem

 Even though the late J Dilla isn’t with us anymore anticipation for his upcoming album is fierce. The new album will showcase the rhyming skills of Dilla while a variety of producers take on the instrumentals. With that said we are graced with a new track from the Dilla camp. This recent track titled “Anthem” provides both production and rhyming alongside Frank N Dank. J Dilla’s new album The Diary is set to release this year. Listen to the new track below.

 

J Dilla x Stussy World Tour Tee

Today, we celebrate the birth of what some claim to be the best hip-hop producer of all time – J Dilla (we have no argument for that). Recognizing his passing along with his birthday are the original streetwear players Stussy, with this J Dilla x Stussy World Tour Tee. This limited edition commemorative shirt uses the brand’s iconic World Tour design and lists all the legendary producers album’s. J Dilla – Rebirth of Detroit (Full Album Stream)

The untimely passing of James Dewitt Yancy effected people close to him as well as the underground hip-hop nation, but his music still lives on and will forever live on. Today, we are privileged to hear the release of his third album since his passing, Rebirth of Detroit. The project is released by Ruff Draft Records, a label created by the late producer’s mother, and features various artists rhyming over unreleased J Dilla beats. The album is now streaming below.

Unreleased J Dilla Set to Drop

Maureen Yancy, mother of J Dilla, recently revealed that a brand new project is in the works that comprises of unreleased J Dilla material and Detroit-based artists who were associated with him.
