All focus has seemingly gone from Google Glass to Google Smart Contact Lenses in a matter of one single press release. Although the contact lenses aren’t really comparable to Google Glass yet, Google has definitely started on the right track. The announcement comes in the form of targeting diabetic patients and how certain body fluids (like tears) can help doctors track glucose levels and other issues that diabetic patients may face. Google is still in talk’s with the FDA, and it may be a long time before we see it at a consumer level, but we definitely tip our hat off to them for the innovation to come.

Google Earth Creating 3D Cities For Mobile Devices

Google, again is expanding their capabilities with Google Earth. Using new technology, that builds on expansive ideas they’ve used since 2006. Google Earth will present 45 degree aerial imagery for mobile map devices. The new technology allows for textured renderings, 3D cityscapes and buildings that take on distinct and unique characteristics to that particular city. By the end of the year, Google aims to have 3D coverage for metropolitan areas with a combined population of 300 million people.

Google Play

It looks like the much-anticipated Google Playhas made it to the top of their navigation bar and has set forth for take-off. Google Play is a new digital content experience from Google where you can find your favorite music, movies, books, and Android apps and games. It’s your entertainment hub: you can access it from the web or from your Android device or even TV, and all your content is instantly available across all of these devices. As an alternative to the Apple iTunes store; Play stands out from its counter part as it takes the “open,” cross-platform, approach. In other words – you don’t have to own an Android device to rent movies or purchase music, it’s all cloud-backed and browser accessible. They have also paved the way for other platforms by developing a Google Play app for iOS devices and as competition heats up all over the tech world. It will be interesting to see how well Google Play performs over its “Goliath” of a rival – iTunes.

Google Wallet
Well, I don’t think Google can say it any better, “In the past few thousand years, the way we pay has changed just three times—from coins, to paper money, to plastic cards.” Now I’m pretty sure the next big shift is coming up. The Google Wallet is an Android app that makes your phone your wallet. It stores virtual versions of your existing plastic cards on your phone. Simply tap your phone to pay and redeem offers using near field communication, or NFC. When it launches, you’ll be able to use Citi® MasterCard® cards and the Google Prepaid Card with Google Wallet and will let you take advantage of exclusive Google Offers to help you save money at the same time.
