A fascinating series of prints come to us from Hamburg, Germany by graphic designer Reinhard Krug. Titled “Islands”, the prints portray floating cities from Honk Kong to London and Berlin to New York. The limited edition prints are printed on TECCO PM230 MATT (230 g/m²) paper, hand numbered and are limited to 50 prints each city. They are available now through Krug’s store Stuff! act quick though because they are moving at a steady pace.
Google, again is expanding their capabilities with Google Earth. Using new technology, that builds on expansive ideas they’ve used since 2006. Google Earth will present 45 degree aerial imagery for mobile map devices. The new technology allows for textured renderings, 3D cityscapes and buildings that take on distinct and unique characteristics to that particular city. By the end of the year, Google aims to have 3D coverage for metropolitan areas with a combined population of 300 million people.
