Google Earth Creating 3D Cities For Mobile Devices

Google, again is expanding their capabilities with Google Earth. Using new technology, that builds on expansive ideas they’ve used since 2006. Google Earth will present 45 degree aerial imagery for mobile map devices. The new technology allows for textured renderings, 3D cityscapes and buildings that take on distinct and unique characteristics to that particular city. By the end of the year, Google aims to have 3D coverage for metropolitan areas with a combined population of 300 million people.

Kurt Wenner – 3D Pavement Illusions

We have probably all seen some kind of 3D sidewalk chalk art, but I don’t think anything compares to this guy. Ann Arbor, Michigan-born Kurt Wenner has a bit of interaction with his street pieces. Originally, Wenner worked at NASA as an illustrator, creating conceptual paintings of “future space projects and extraterrestrial landscapes.” Wenner eventually left NASA for Italy in order to pursue his love of classical art.

JVC’s GS-TD1 3D camcorder now available for $1,700

As promised back at CES JVC said that its new consumer-grade GS-TD1 3D camcorder would be available in March and, well, it’s now available. While that may not be a surprise, JVC has shaken things up a bit with the pricing since its official announcement – instead of the full $2,000 that was originally expected, the camcorder will now set you back “just” $1,699.95. That will buy you a pair of 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensor that record 3D video at 1080i, a 5x optical zoom (or 10x in 2D mode), 64GB of built-in flash memory along with an SDXC card slot for expansion, and a 3.5-inch LCD that lets you view your videos 3DS-style without any glasses.
